IT was beginning to look as though a monument to San Diego's most famous dog, Bum, might just live up its namesake and wind up homeless.
That's interesting too because Homelessness also seems to be coming up a lot too, the links to Helen and Beau and the Soloist film at the time of the Hobo links to James and so on ..... perhaps it's an indicator that the problem is about to get even worse than it already is.

Pearl, a 4-year-old Labrador retriever, was abandoned at a shelter, then trained and sent this year to Haiti with a rescue team from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The county's seven rescue teams helped bring 12 people to safety.
Cat honors went to Henry, a stray, injured kitten found near San Diego in 2004. After his leg was amputated, he inspired the children's books that have generated more than $50,000 for animal causes.

A teenager has died in hospital after the car he was travelling in crashed while being followed by police.
Dorset Police said officers investigating reports of a petrol station fuel theft had tried to stop a car in the early hours of Sunday.

Christchurch Cathedral - In 1858 the project was approved by the diocese and a design was commissioned from George Gilbert Scott, a prolific British architect who was known for his Gothic Revival churches and public buildings (he later went on to build St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland).

When I was a boy in Billericay I had a friend named Barry Cooper, he lived at No 33 Trinity road.
Barry was one of the two boys who were with me in the station waiting room on the day that I first read the poem on the poster on the wall five days before the fateful day that I went back there to copy it.

Shortly after I first acquired the Henry boat in Oban I mentioned to Elaine and a friend named Carol that I needed wood to make repairs to the boat which I had moored next to the little quay in front of the Alexander hotel by Oban Cathedral. The next morning the boat was afloat surrounded by floating planks of wood.
It spooked poor Carol more than a little bit!

Bell had the Comet lengthened and re-engined, and from September 1819 ran a service to Oban and Fort William (via the Crinan Canal), a trip which took four days. On 13 December 1820 the Comet was shipwrecked in strong currents at Craignish Point near Oban.
Craignish point is extremely close to Duntrune castle where the finale of the 23rd Bond film SKYFALL was going to be filmed. I think they changed the plan though.

Craignish point is about two and a half miles from Duntrune castle.
The other Craignish is in Queensland in between Agnes water, where we were led to Ana's bell code and Bowen, the sister rock site to Oban.
There were two Comet boats built -
Bell built another vessel, Comet II, but on 21 October 1825 she collided with the steamer Ayr off Kempock Point, Gourock, Scotland.
The Ayr, we learn, had a light out upon her bow, but the Comet had none. As the night, however, was clear, it is obvious that a bad look out had been kept up, and most reprehensible neglect shown on both sides. At the moment the accident took place, those on the deck of the Comet were, it is said, engaged in dancing. The passengers who were below were in high spirits, amusing themselves telling and listening to diverting tales. The first stroke hit about the paddle of the Comet. The Captain and passengers immediately ran upon deck to see what was wrong; when - the next fatal stroke took place with such force, that the Comet filled, and in two minutes went down head foremost. The moment this look place, the Ayr, instead of lending any assistance, gave her paddles a back stroke, turned round, and went off to Greenock, leaving them to their fate. [1]
Comet II sank very quickly, killing 62 of the 80 passengers on board. After the loss of his second ship, Bell abandoned his work on steam navigation.
